We built Vastralook so Indian fashion sellers can get studio-quality on-model pictures from a photo of the garment, without booking a studio, a model and an editor. Drape Studio handles sarees, Catalogue Studio handles everything else, prices are in rupees, and failed shots return their credits.
Vastralook makes on-model pictures of clothing from a photo of the garment. This post is about why it exists and why it looks the way it does. We will keep it to what we can stand behind.
The problem we started from
Selling clothes online runs on pictures. A listing without a good photo does not get clicked, and a photo that does not match the piece comes back as a return. Making those pictures the traditional way means a studio, a model, a photographer, an editor and a schedule that all have to line up.
For a large brand that is a budget line. For a boutique, a reseller or a small manufacturer, it is often the reason new designs sit unlisted. The fabric is ready. The pictures are not.
We wrote about these costs and delays in detail in our posts on studio shoots and on catalogues without a studio. The short version is that the picture was the slow, expensive step, and it did not need to be.
Why sarees got their own studio
General tools that put a garment on a model handle a shirt or a kurti reasonably. A saree is different. It is unstitched cloth with a body, borders, pleats and a pallu, and the sale depends on the pallu looking right.
So Drape Studio starts from your photo of the saree and gives you control over it. You cut the cloth with pins or a lasso, mark where the pallu begins, mark one repeat of the pattern if there is one, and add a blouse. You decide where things go, instead of hoping they land well. Catalogue Studio is for everything else: kurtis, suits, dresses, co-ords and more.
The cut editor is the part we kept working on. Pins sit on the photo, the outline shows exactly what will be cut, and each point can be moved on its own. It is more work than typing a sentence, and it gives you a result you can repeat.
Why the prices look the way they do
- Rupees, not dollars. Credit packs start at ₹250, with plans from ₹1,099 a month, and GST invoices are available.
- The price before the click. Each order button has an info panel showing the price per shot at each size, the time, and the total. Nothing is charged until you press the button itself.
- Credits back when a shot fails. If a shot cannot be made, or you cancel one that has not started, its credits return to you. You can also ask for half the credits back on a finished shot that missed.
- A way to try it first. New accounts get 40 free credits on mobile verification.
Why three order types
Not every seller has the same need on the same day. Instant is for when you are short of time (1–2 min). Standard is the lowest-price option (3–4 min) and includes one free Recreate on each shot. Budget costs less than Instant and takes longer (5–10 min). You choose per order, and the price is on the button.
Why Hindi and Gujarati
A lot of the people who sell clothes in India think and work in Hindi or Gujarati. If the tool only speaks English, they lose time on every screen. Both studios, and the step-by-step guides with screenshots, are available in English, Hindi and Gujarati.
What we are still working on
Some things are harder than others. Colours need to match the real piece, and sometimes they do not on the first try. That is why Recreate exists, and why we say to check every picture against the garment before you publish it. We would rather tell you that than promise every shot is perfect.
