Dress photography with AI starts in Catalogue Studio: add a clean photo of the dress, pick models and poses, check the Summary, and order. We hold reference photos for 36 dress and gown types. The three things to get right are the hemline, the fabric and the pose.
Dress photography: what to upload
- One clean photo of the dress, laid flat or hung, filling the frame and shot square-on.
- The whole garment, including the hem. A cut-off hemline is the most common reason a length looks wrong.
- Up to 4 photos of the same dress: front, back, side and a detail such as a zip or a print.
- A plain background and indirect daylight, so no shadows are carried into the result.
Dress photography by fabric and length
| Dress type | What to watch | What to show |
|---|---|---|
| Short and mini dresses | The hemline sits on the thigh; check it against the marketplace's rules | A full-length front view and one side view |
| Midi and maxi dresses | The fall and the hem in a full-length frame | Full length, plus a pose that shows movement |
| Flowy fabrics (chiffon, georgette) | Light, sheer fabric can look flat in a plain flat-lay | A pose that lets the fabric fall |
| Structured fabrics (denim, crepe) | Seams, darts and the waistline | A front view, then a back view |
| Printed dresses | Print scale and colour | A close-up of the print |
| Gowns and evening dresses | Train, drape and embellishment | Full length and a close-up of the detail |
How Catalogue Studio handles a dress
- 1. Add the dress
Press Add a garment and choose the front photo. Add a back or side photo with the + on the card.
- 2. Choose who wears it
Filter the models by region, age, skin tone and body type, and pick one or more. Every model you pick multiplies the shots.
- 3. Choose the pose and setting
Search styles by background or object, and filter by garment category, pose and camera angle. View opens a style in a larger picture.
- 4. Check the Summary
Summary lists every shot. Nothing is charged until you place the order.
- 5. Order and download
Pick Instant, Budget or Standard. A Standard order shot at 2K costs ₹10–₹13 per shot and takes about 3–4 minutes.
Kurtis worn as dresses
A short kurti worn with jeans and a long kurti worn as a dress are different listings. If you sell the long kurti as a dress, photograph it as a dress: full length in the frame, with the hem visible, and name it that way in the title. Our kurti post covers the poses and angles for kurti listings.
Can I photograph western dresses with Vastralook?

How do I show the length of a dress?
Keep the whole dress, including the hem, in your photo, and choose a full-length pose in Styles.
Can I use a kurti as a dress listing?
Yes, if it is long enough to be worn that way. Photograph it full length and name it accurately in the title.
How many photos of the dress can I add?
Up to 4 photos of the same piece: front, back, side and a detail.
How much does dress photography with AI cost?
A Standard order shot at 2K costs ₹10–₹13 per shot, and an image you generate yourself costs ₹20–₹25 at 1K. The studio shows the total before you pay.
